Broccoli is a versatile vegetable that complements almost any meal. A few extra ingredients can brighten the flavor of the broccoli for a variety in taste.
2lbs.broccoli florets (I used a bag from Costco) or 2 heads or crowns, cut in florets
4Tbsp.garlic, minced
2lemons, juice only
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Use a steamer on the stovetop for the broccoli by filling a Dutch oven with about two inches of water. The steamer basket fits down on the top of the Dutch oven. Place the lid on top of the steamer and preheat the water. Alternatively, you can place an inch or two of water in the bottom of the pan, placing the lid on the pan to create steam.
When the water is heated, place the broccoli in the steamer basket and return the lid to the top of the steamer. If you are using the alternative method, place the broccoli directly into the water and cover it with the lid.
Check the broccoli every five minutes until it is crisp and tender.
In the meantime, get the garlic and lemon ready. Broccoli cools quickly, so when it is ready, all the other components of the meal should be ready.
When the broccoli is ready, toss it with garlic and lemon juice, salt and pepper.
