Broccoli with Garlic and Lemon seems like a no-brainer as a side dish, but sometimes we need that, right? Broccoli is an easy side dish to serve alongside any meat, fish or pasta, and it is fine on its own. Why not change it by adding a little more flavor to give it some pizzazz? Roast it, steam it or saute it to make an ordinary side dish into a very tasty side dish.
Ingredients
2 lbs. broccoli florets (I used a bag from Costco) or two heads or crowns, cut in florets
4 Tbsp. garlic, minced
2 lemons, juice only
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Use a steamer on the stovetop for the broccoli. For mine, I fill a Dutch oven with about two inches of water. The steamer basket fits down on the top of the Dutch oven. I place the lid on top of the steamer and preheat the water.
When the water is heated, place the broccoli in the steamer basket and return the lid to the top of the steamer.
Check the broccoli every five minutes until it is crisp and tender. In the meantime, get the garlic and lemon ready. Broccoli cools quickly, so when it is ready, all the other components of the meal should be ready. When the broccoli is ready, toss it with garlic and lemon juice, salt and pepper.
Broccoli with Garlic and Lemon is a go-to side dish for any cuisine.

Ingredients
- 2 lbs. broccoli florets (I used a bag from Costco) or 2 heads or crowns, cut in florets
- 4 Tbsp. garlic, minced
- 2 lemons, juice only
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Use a steamer on the stovetop for the broccoli by filling a Dutch oven with about two inches of water. The steamer basket fits down on the top of the Dutch oven. Place the lid on top of the steamer and preheat the water. Alternatively, you can place an inch or two of water in the bottom of the pan, placing the lid on the pan to create steam.
- When the water is heated, place the broccoli in the steamer basket and return the lid to the top of the steamer. If you are using the alternative method, place the broccoli directly into the water and cover it with the lid.
- Check the broccoli every five minutes until it is crisp and tender.
- In the meantime, get the garlic and lemon ready. Broccoli cools quickly, so when it is ready, all the other components of the meal should be ready.
- When the broccoli is ready, toss it with garlic and lemon juice, salt and pepper.
