Steak with Chocolate Merlot Sauce
The sauce is the star of this recipe. Similar to a Mole sauce, the red wine in this sauce deepens the flavor of the chocolate, making it a savory sauce instead of sweet. This is truly delicious and an excellent choice for a special occasion or family gathering.

- 3-4 steaks any cut of steak works well, such as ribeye, New York Strip, or T-bone
- 2 Tbsp. taco seasoning mix or 1 packet
- 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 onion sliced
- 2 tsp. garlic minced
- 1 jalapeno chopped fine
- 1-1/2 cups Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir or other red blend
- 3 oz. sugar-free semisweet chocolate chips sweetened with Stevia or erythritol
- 1 Tbsp. onion soup mix
Rub the steaks with the taco seasoning.
Set aside.
Heat some oil in a saucepan.
Saute the onion, garlic and jalapeno until soft.
Add the wine and reduce by half.
Stir in the chocolate and onion soup mix.
Stir.
Reduce heat to low.
Grill the steak to your liking.
Top the steak with the sauce and serve.
