Steak with Chocolate Merlot Sauce

The sauce is the star of this recipe. Similar to a Mole sauce, the red wine in this sauce deepens the flavor of the chocolate, making it a savory sauce instead of sweet. This is truly delicious and an excellent choice for a special occasion or family gathering.

  • 1 knife
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 Large spoon
  • Indoor or outdoor grill

Ingredients
  

  • 3-4 steaks any cut of steak works well, such as ribeye, New York Strip, or T-bone
  • 2 Tbsp. taco seasoning mix or 1 packet
  • 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 tsp. garlic minced
  • 1 jalapeno chopped fine
  • 1-1/2 cups Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir or other red blend
  • 3 oz. sugar-free semisweet chocolate chips sweetened with Stevia or erythritol
  • 1 Tbsp. onion soup mix

Instructions
 

  • Rub the steaks with the taco seasoning.
  • Set aside.
  • Heat some oil in a saucepan.
  • Saute the onion, garlic and jalapeno until soft.
  • Add the wine and reduce by half.
  • Stir in the chocolate and onion soup mix.
  • Stir.
  • Reduce heat to low.
  • Grill the steak to your liking.
  • Top the steak with the sauce and serve.
