The rich steak sauce reminds me of a mole sauce. Chocolate and wine are a perfect match for this savory sauce, which you can serve with your favorite cut of steak. Merlot is a versatile wine, depending on the region in which it is grown. Any Merlot that is Cabernet-like works well in this recipe. If Merlot is not available, a Cabernet would also work well. I saw this recipe in Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Grilling cookbook, but made a few changes to the original recipe.
Ingredients
3-4 steaks, any cut of steak works well, such as ribeye, New York Strip, or T-bone
2 Tbsp. taco seasoning mix or 1 packet
2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 onion, sliced
2 tsp. garlic, minced
1 jalapeno, chopped fine
1-1/2 cups Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir or other red blend
3 oz. sugar-free semisweet chocolate chips (sweetened with Stevia or erythritol)
1 Tbsp. onion soup mix
Instructions
Rub the steaks with the taco seasoning. Set aside.

Heat some oil in a saucepan. Saute the onion, garlic and jalapeno until soft.

Add the wine and reduce by half.

Stir in the chocolate and onion soup mix. Stir. Reduce heat to low.

Grill the steak to your liking.

Top the steak with the sauce and serve.
