Zucchini Gratin

Zucchini, buttery Gruyere cheese and a creamy sauce bake up into an amazing side dish. This casserole is perfect to serve along side steak, chicken, pork or fish.

  • Measuring spoons
  • 1 measuring cup
  • cheese grater
  • 1 knife
  • 1 frying pan with lid
  • 1 Large spoon
  • 1 8x10 baking dish

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Tbsp. butter + more for topping
  • 1 lb. yellow onions, chopped ct in 1.2 and sliced
  • 2 lbs. zucchini, sliced roughly about 4 zucchini, sliced 1/4" thick
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 cup hot milk
  • 3/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 3/4 cup Gruyere cheese, grated grated

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Melt the butter in a large frying pan and cook onions for 20 minutes until tender but not brown.
  • Add zucchini.
  • Cover and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Add salt, pepper and nutmeg.
  • Cook uncovered for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in flour.
  • Add the hot milk and cook over low heat for a few minutes until it makes a sauce.
  • Pour into an 8x10 baking dish.
  • Combine the breadcrumbs and Gruyere cheese.
  • Sprinkle on top of the zucchini mixture.
  • Dot with butter and bake for 20 minutes or until bubbly and brown.
