An ongoing task is going through the boxes in my mother’s storage unit to see what I can sell, what should be donated and separate the family photos and mementos. I found a pair of wooden cats that my mother always kept on her dresser. I’ve always liked them, but they were plain brown wood pieces. I decided I would glam them up a bit for my own taste. This turned out to be a very simple craft that did not take much time to complete.
I painted each cat with some Waverly Black Chalk Paint. Waverly craft paints are sold at Wal-Mart; however, Wal-Mart has discontinued this paint. It is such a shame because it is a good craft paint to use with a whole line of beautiful colors. It took two coats of paint to cover the cats.
While the paint was drying, I cut two strips from a sheet of gemmies I purchased at Dollar Tree. I would use these gemmie strips for the cat tails.
I cut two strips from the larger sheet for each cat tail.
In order to form a good, circular curl on the cat tail, I used a roll of ribbon and a small can of adhesive spray as a circular line for the curling tail. You gotta use what ya’ got, right? These items on my table worked well for my needs.
I cut some shorter gemmie strips to form the cat whiskers and slanted eyes. It was done! Very easy craft!
If you have items that you want to keep, but not as they are, don’t be afraid to think outside the box a little to make the item new again. I’m sure I will enjoy these glammed up black cats a lot more than if they remained brown.
