These Keto Crab Cakes check all the boxes you want in a great crab cake: crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, and loaded with plenty of crab in every bite. The one thing you won’t find here is mayonnaise, making them a lighter option that still delivers big on taste and texture.
A touch of Cajun seasoning adds just the right amount of flair, giving these crab cakes a subtle kick without overpowering the crab’s natural sweetness. They come together quickly, making them perfect for an easy weeknight dinner or a last-minute dish when you want something a little special without much effort.
You can use either lump crab meat or canned crab for this recipe, depending on what’s available or fits your budget. While lump crab offers a slightly more delicate texture, canned crab works beautifully and still provides the same delicious flavor, so you really can’t go wrong either way.
Ingredients
1 egg, beaten
2 tsp. creole mustard
1 tsp. Worcestershire
1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
Dash of hot sauce (I use Tabasco)
1/2 tsp. liquid crab boil (I use Zatarain’s)
1/2 tsp. of Cajun seasoning (I use Tony Chachere’s)
1/2 tsp. seafood seasoning (I use Old Bay)
1/2 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped
1 green onion, finely chopped
1 lb. lump crab meat or 3 cans of crab, drained and picked through for shells
1-3/4 cup dry Keto breadcrumbs (I make these myself)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
Tartar sauce for serving
Instructions
In a medium bowl, soak the crab in milk for at least 30 minutes to remove any fishy taste or odor. If you are using canned crab, drain the liquid first and sift through the crab to remove any bits of shells. Drain and rinse the crab in a fine mesh colander after soaking. Press the crab with a spatula to squeeze out as much moisture as possible.

In another medium bowl, mix the egg, Creole mustard, Worcestershire, lemon juice, crab boil, hot sauce, seafood seasoning and Cajun seasoning.

In a food processor, process the red bell pepper and green onion. Add to the seasoning mixture and stir.

Fold in the crab, salt, pepper and 3/4 cups of the Keto breadcrumbs. Add more breadcrumbs if the mixture seems to be too wet, but this should not occur if you have squeezed the moisture out of the crab.

Place the remaining breadcrumbs in a shallow dish, such as a pie plate.

Form patties with the crab mixture and coat with the breadcrumbs. Place the crab patties on a baking sheet.

Heat some oil in a skillet on medium heat. Fry the patties for about 3-5 minutes on each side. Watch them carefully to make sure they do not burn. They should be golden brown. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate and keep warm until all patties are fried.

Serve with tartar sauce and Keto Coleslaw for a delicious Keto meal.
