Review: No Time to Die

Wait…..WHUUUUUT?!!! The ending! Oh my goodness! As his last time playing the iconic James Bond, Daniel Craig leaves the series with an absolute cliffhanger! Bond fans will be shocked! Stay until the credits roll to the end to find out the fate of the future. I have seen all the Bond movies, some multiple times, but this one had the most bombshell (literally) ending of all of them!

The 25th James Bond film stars Daniel Craig as James Bond, Lea Seydoux as Dr. Madeleine Swann, Rami Malek as Safin, Christoph Waltz as Ernest Blofeld (Bond’s nemesis), Ralph Fiennes as M and others. Other familiar faces from previous Bond films make an appearance as well.

This movie is action-packed, starting s within the first 5 minutes. There are lots of surprises in this movie that reveal some secrets about the personal lives of the characters. The movie had several delays during production due to a change in directors in 2018 to Fukinaga. The Covid-19 pandemic also delayed the release of the film for almost two years.

In order to grasp what is happening in the plot of No Time to Die, viewers should watch the previous Bond movie, Spectre, first. Bond picks up where Spectre left off, with Bond in retirement and traveling the world with his love, Dr. Madeleine Swann. A flashback reveals a tragic incident in Swann’s childhood that introduces the villain, Safin, and introduces the purpose of the plot. Even though Bond and Swann are completely committed, an attack occurs that leads Bond to believe that Swann has betrayed him, so he leaves her. Even though Bond no longer works for MI6, the CIA recruits him to find a missing scientist that has developed a smart virus that customizes itself to an individual’s DNA upon contact. Bond visits Blofeld, who is in a high-security prison, in order to locate the missing scientist. Bond and Swann reunite at the prison, but little does Bond know that Swann has infected him with the virus. Swann leaves the meeting abruptly right before Blofeld reveals that his breakup with Swann was engineered by him. Bond tracks Swann to her childhood home where more secrets are revealed and the ending sets up leading to Safin. Too much information will give away more surprises leading to a cataclysmic ending.

Some families like to see movies together during the holidays. This one is a good one to see before it leaves the theaters. Don’t leave until the end of the credits rolls to get an answer to what you just saw. You will need that time to digest what happened anyway.
