I never thought that any beach would be an ideal location for Spring break because I had the idea in my head that the beaches anywhere were inundated with partying young adults. I have to say that I placed this stereotype erroneously in my head. Edisto Beach during Spring break was practically empty. It was not crowded at all and now I long to go back. It was wonderful!
Edisto Beach is a small beach town located about an hour and 10 minutes from Charleston, SC. The resort is not directly on the beach, but it is within a very short, drivable distance or a bike ride away. The resort condos are complete with a full kitchen; therefore, you can prepare meals in the privacy of your own apartment, but if you care to venture out, there are a few restaurants in the area.
Edisto Beach only has one Food Lion grocery store, but it is well-stocked, and you can find most of what you are looking for at somewhat reasonable prices. If you want to purchase something beyond what they have there, you can stock up at a store in Charleston if planning to make a visit there.
The resort condos have many different floor plans. The unit we received was a two bedroom/two bath unit with full kitchen. The master bathroom was quite large with a huge walk-in shower and a jacuzzi tub. The washer/dryer was located in a closet in the master bathroom. A king bed was located in the master bedroom and twin beds were located in the extra bedroom. The extra bedroom had its own small bathroom. The unit was well appointed with a large kitchen area with granite counters. The living room area contained comfortable chairs and a sofa.
A large walk in storage closet was available off the living area which was convenient for storing luggage and beach supplies. All rooms provided flat screen TVs. The living room was spacious and comfortable with two chairs and a large sofa.
Some of the condo units border a golf course. A large balcony with table and chairs overlooked the golf course. The unit we received was on the third floor with, no elevators so we had to haul all our gear up two flights, but the third floor unit had vaulted ceilings, making it seem bright and airy inside the unit.
In the center of the resort is an entertainment complex for the residents. There is a small coffee bar that looked very cute. It was closed when we were looking around, so I cannot vouch for it. Next door, there was an 18 hole mini golf course that wasn’t elaborate but something fun to do. The golf course was shaded by trees, which would be nice in the summer months. Across from the mini golf course was a really nice playground for the littles. The ground surface had that squishy turf that would be softer if a child fell. The resort pool was also in this area. There were plenty of lounge chairs for visitors and some restrooms. There were also some picnic tables and yard games available for those who needed something else to do. The whole area was shaded by tall trees, making it a beautiful place to relax. It was too cold to swim when we were there, but the weather was nice enough that some people were enjoying some quiet time in the lounge chairs. Finally, there were bicycles to check out for the residents for free available outside the coffee shop.
The beach was a short drive away. I have to say, I loved the beach on this island. Even though we were there over Spring break, the beach had very few people. It was not crowded at all. The first few days we were there, it was a little chilly, but that did not stop us from taking a walk on the beach one night. It was beautiful! Later on in the week, the weather warmed up quite a bit, so we were able to enjoy the sunshine and sand. The water was way to cold for swimming, but I saw some children darting in and out of the waves. They are a lot more resilient about that sort of thing than adults. Parking was available at beach access all along the beach. We never had any trouble finding a place to park.
I loved this resort! I hope to go back one day. The Charleston area is beautiful. You could also take other day trips to see many of the other historical sites and cities and use the Wyndham Ocean Ridge as a base. I would definitely go back given the opportunity.
