White Sangria

Rate this post

I needed an excuse to invite some friends over. Scratch that! I enticed some friends to come over by making a special cocktail. Scratch that! I didn’t need to coerce them with cocktails; they were coming anyway because they wanted to hang out. I made Sangria anyway. What a refreshing way to spend the afternoon on the deck or patio on a beautiful day!

The day before serving the sangria, select the fruit to use. I chose red grapes, oranges, plums and blueberries. The blueberries and red grapes will actually turn your sangria a pink color, so if you want your sangria to appear more white, you can use green grapes and another type of fruit, such as kiwi. Slice the plums and oranges into wedges and cut the grapes in half. Place all the fruit in a bowl.

Using a muddling tool (this could be an official bar muddling tool, but you could use a mallet or wooden spoon), mash the fruit a little bit to release some of the juices. Be careful not to mash them too much. You want the fruit to retain their shapes.

Place the muddled fruit and juice in a pretty pitcher. This pitcher belonged to my mother and my grandmother before her. Isn’t it pretty?

Add one bottle of your favorite white wine and 3/4 cup orange licqueur, such as Triple Sec or Cointreau. Depending on how many guests you are serving, you can double the liquids. I felt I only needed one bottle, but in hindsight, I should have doubled it. Place the sangria in the refrigerator overnight, so the flavors can chill out together. Pour into wine glasses and enjoy!
