Avocado Fries in the Air Fryer

First, let me say that you do not need an air fryer to make these Avocado Fries. You can use an oven with the same results. These could not be easier! Avocado Fries make an excellent alternative to french fries with burgers or sandwiches. You can make these Keto or not.

My genius idea to make the Keto version is to replace panko breadcrumbs with chopped sliced almonds. If you have a recipe you love that uses panko breadcrumbs, try substituting chopped sliced almonds. Most recipes I have tried using this replacement has turned out well. Chopped sliced almonds also work well as a replacement for breadcrumbs on a casserole or other dish that requires a breadcrumb topping in the recipe.

Ingredients

4 somewhat ripe avocadoes, sliced (medium firmness with no gray spots)

Seasoning – You can use any kind of seasoning or seasoning blend that you like – seasoned salt, cajun seasoning, BBQ seasoning,, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, etc.

Salt (if you use season salt as your seasoning, do not add more salt)

1 cup sliced almonds, chopped (or panko breadcrumbs if not Keto)

2 eggs, beaten

Instructions

Halve the avocados and twist the two parts to release one side from the other. Carefully remove the seed by whacking your knife on the seed. The knife will embed itself in the seed. Gently twist until the seed pops out

Scoop out the avocado and place the flat side down on a cutting board. Slice the avocado with a knife. Repeat with remaining avocados. Season the avocados with whatever seasoning you are using.

In a small bowl, beat the two eggs. On a plate, place the chopped sliced almonds and mix them with the seasoning you are using.

Dip the avocados in the egg and then the almond mixture.

Air Fryer Method

Place the avocados in a single layer in the air fryer drawer or tray. Bake at 400 degrees for 2 or 3 minutes. Turn the avocados over and bake for another 2 or 3 minutes. All air fryers are different, so watch these carefully to make sure they do not burn. You can certainly bake the avocado fries longer or less than 2 or 3 minutes if needed. A golden brown color is the desired result.

Oven Method

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the avocados on a prepared cookie sheet. Bake the avocados for 5 minutes. Then turn the avocados over to bake for another 5 minutes. You could bake longer or less if needed to achieve a nice golden brown crust.
