The Jurassic movies have been around for many, many years. Some think the series is becoming tired, but I still thought this movie was entertaining. Chris Pratt returns in his role as a semi-retired raptor trainer in the newest installment of Jurassic World: Dominion. We saw this movie on National Cinema Day at the only theater at which it was playing in my area. It was released a while ago, so it may not be in theaters for much longer. Supposedly, Jurassic World Dominion will end the series.
Many of the original cast of the first Jurassic Park movie returned to reprise their roles which made this movie a nice sendoff for the dinosaur franchise. The plot takes place several years after the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom where humans and dinosaurs now coexist all over the world. Laura Dern plays a paleontologist, Ellie Sattler, who discovers that giant locusts are being used as an eco-weapon to destroy crops; however, only crops not using Biosin seeds have fallen to the locust swarms. She seeks out her paleontologist old friend, Alan Grant, to help her infiltrate Biosin to investigate the locust swarms and why the seeds from Biosin are not affected. Ellie has received a message from Ian Malcom, played by Jeff Goldblum, who is consulting for Biosin and invites Ellie to the Biosin headquarters in the Dolomite Mountains. Meanwhile, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. They are secretly raising the cloned granddaughter of Benjamin Lockwood, Maisie Lockwood. Maisie is sought after so that scientists can study her DNA. She is kidnapped by Biosyn goons who take her to the Dolomite Mountain lair. Owen and Claire pursue her whereabouts and end up at the Biosyn headquarters at the same time that Alan and Ellie arrive. Not only was Maisie kidnapped, but the baby of the Velocoraptor, Blue, was also taken. The rest of the film is devoted to rescue efforts.
Filming of Jurassic World was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A Universal project, the film was originally scheduled for release in Summer of 2021, but was delayed a year because of the pandemic. Jurassic World Dominion was not favored by critics, but if you are a fan of the franchise, I think you will find it to be entertaining. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
