I think by now, everyone is seeing some differences at the grocery store no matter where you are. The supply chain shipping problems are random. Basically in the metropolitan area where I live, I am seeing more empty gaps on the shelves of the grocery stores, but they are random items like crackers, chicken, certain canned goods but not all canned goods, cleaners, and some other things. I am still able to find workarounds in my city. On the other hand, I think smaller towns and cities are hit harder by this supply chain event. I was in an HEBPlus store in the Texas Hill Country not too long ago. I think that is quite possibly the biggest grocery store I have ever been in. On every aisle, there were some huge gaps of something. Every aisle! Now, I would say if there was only one gap here and there it would not have been a big deal, but it was literally every aisle. That’s a problem!
Also, inflation is skyrocketing. Everyone knows by now that the Dollar Tree is no longer selling all their items for a dollar; items are now $1.25. In other terms, that’s a 25% increase. Walmart used to sell a bag of Great Value frozen tilapia for $11.28. It is now $18.75; a seven-dollar increase, making that bag of fish a 60% increase. No thank you!
All of this has gotten so out of hand, it is a little overwhelming. The only suggestion I have is that if you see something you use all the time at a good price, stock up on it. Prices are going up as availability is going down, which is a basic principle of supply and demand. You can build a small stockpile in your home with the items you use most. Hopefully, this way, you can shop from your own supplies at home, which will save you money in the long run.
