The Lost City is a comedy adventure film starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe. I was surprised to see an appearance also of Brad Pitt briefly at the beginning and end of the movie. The plot reminded me of the first Romancing the Stone movie, starring Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas, from the mid-80s. The plot follows Loretta Sage, a romance novelist who has written romance adventure novels with the main character, Dash McMahon. Alan Caprison (Tatum) is the cover model for the novels. They work closely together to promote her books and have a huge following. Loretta is captured after a stop on her book tour by a billionaire searching for a lost city where a “Crown of Fire” is supposedly hidden. He has discovered that Loretta’s latest book is based on research from Loretta’s deceased archeologist husband that may reveal the whereabouts of the Crown of Fire. Alan engages the help of a former NAVY seal (Pitt) to help find and extricate Loretta, but he is killed immediately after the extraction, leaving Alan and Loretta to fend for themselves. The two, on their own, evade the captors, leading to many mishaps and the ultimate goal of finding the Crown of Fire.
The movie was directed by Alan and Adam Nee, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Oren Uziel and Dana Fox. The story used for the plot was conceived by Seth Gordon. The filming occurred in the Dominican Republic and was released in March 2022 by Paramount. The film is considered the 9th highest-grossing film of 2022 so far.
The Lost City is an entertaining movie that is worth a look, especially nowadays after the movie draught of Coronavirus. I give The Lost City 4 out of 5 stars.
