Review: Spiderman No Way Home

If you are a fan of the Avengers Marvel franchise, Spiderman: No Way Home is a must see movie adventure. Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker, but Spiderman fans will be delighted to see some other familiar faces in the cast, such as Willem Defoe as the Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, Thomas Hayden Church as the Sandman, Tobey McGuire as Spiderman, Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange.

The movie begins by revealing Spiderman’s identity as Peter Parker. Peter is accused of murder while his family and friends are all guilty by association. Even though Matt Murdock, a lawyer by day and Daredevil by night, works to drop the charges, Peter et al are harassed.

The trio of friends, Peter, Ned and MJ, hope to attend MIT together, so they anxiously await the arrival of their acceptance letters. When the letters arrive, they open them simultaneously only to find out that they have all been rejected due to their association with Spiderman. Peter knows that the Admissions Counselor is on the way to the airport, so he intends to find her and convince her to accept his friends to MIT at least. To his surprise, A giant creature is attacking the bridge where the Admissions counselor is crossing. It is Doc Ock who has escaped through a hole in the universe and traveled through space and time to this world. Spiderman saves the day and helps capture Doc Ock. Little does he know that other villains have also escaped through the same hole in the multiverse. With the help of Dr. Strange, Spiderman utilizes magic to save the universe from these dangerous villains.

Villains were not the only ones who came through that hole; The current Peter Parker meets the two other Peter Parkers, who also made it through the hole in the multiverse. At one point, the three Spidermen have a conversation about their experiences and special abilities before they have the final battle. The result of the final battle brings on some tragedies along the way, but revealing those would give away too much of the conclusion to this movie. As usual, make sure you stay until after the credits roll for a hint about what is to come in the Marvel Universe.

The integration of Spidermen from previous film franchises gives the movie an added dimension and makes the plot more complex. Disney and Sony Pictures had some issues bringing this film together. If it were not for the fan reactions to the result of their split and some negotiating by Tom Holland, the film may not have gone forward. Fans are happy that everything worked out because it became the highest-grossing movie of 2021. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can still see it in theaters now.
