I got a bee in my bonnet not long ago, along with an idea from Pinterest, to create some pretty hangers. This is such an easy project to fix up some normally boring hangers. Once I got started, it was kind of addictive. Although I don’t see myself creating a whole closet full immediately, I can certainly see that I could make several now and then. Why? Because it is creative and crafty. Why not?
Supplies
Plastic hangers
Fabric strips – I used some material left over from a fat quarter
Protective finger covering
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks
Instructions
Cut the fabric into strips. For my hangers, I used a cute animal print from a fat quarter I purchased at Walmart. Measure the strips about 1 inch in width and line up the edges with a ruler. I used a fabric cutting wheel to cut the fabric.
Starting at one of the hanger’s bottom corners, place a dab of hot glue on the plastic to adhere the end of a strip of fabric.
Wrap the fabric strip around the hanger to cover it until you reach the end of the strip. Use another dab of hot glue to adhere the end of the fabric strip, and start another strip in the same place.
Continue wrapping until you reach the neck of the hanger. Some hangers have little hooks or indentations to accommodate certain types of clothing. Wrap the fabric around those places as best you can to cover them. When you reach the end of the hanger at the top, ensure the tip is covered in fabric. Secure with hot glue and allow to dry.
These are fun to make and quite addictive because they are so easy. Just like knitting, you can do this at the same time that you are watching TV or something similar.
