Labor Day is right around the corner and that means barbecues and backyard parties with friends. You can rest assured that burgers or brisket will be on the menu in many homes nationwide. Sometimes the side dishes are as big a star of the show as the main dish. These irresistible baked beans are a sure bet that everyone will ask for more. You can make this recipe sugar-free by using Swerve brown sugar, but beans of any kind are not Keto friendly, so why not use regular brown sugar? Might as well live life to the fullest and take the day off from the diet or lifestyle to enjoy these wonderful baked beans.
Ingredients
3 15-0z cans pork and beans (you can also use vegetarian beans if you can find them)
1/3 cup Swerve brown sugar (or regular brown sugar)
1 onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1/4 cup ketchup (use your favorite)
6 strips bacon
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a rectangular baking dish, pour out the pork and beans from the can. Add the onion and green bell pepper. Stir to combine.
Add the ketchup and brown sugar. Stir thoroughly until incorporated well.
Place strips of bacon across the top of the beans.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes. The beans should be bubbly and piping hot. These are so good that I could make a meal of this all by itself.
