Living a keto lifestyle doesn’t mean giving up your favorite dishes; you just need a little creativity to make them work. Over time, I have discovered all kinds of simple swaps: chopped, sliced almonds make great “breadcrumbs”; almond flour or a low-carb bake mix, like Carbquik, steps in beautifully for all-purpose flour and finely diced yellow squash is a surprisingly good stand-in for corn.
Tostadas are one of the easiest recipes to adapt. Traditional tostada shells are made from crisped corn tortillas, but a low-carb tortilla, baked until golden, gives you the same satisfying crunch with a lower carb count. The flavor is slightly different, but the texture and experience are just as good.
When you are cooking, think in terms of replacing—not eliminating—the ingredients that don’t fit your goals. With a few smart swaps, you can enjoy the dishes you love without compromise.
Ingredients
4 low-carb tortillas
1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp. garlic, minced
1 packet taco seasoning mix or 2 Tbsp. homemade taco seasoning
1/2 cup salsa
Toppings: lettuce, tomato, sour cream, green onion, black olives, guacamole
For the Crema:
1 cup sour cream
1 Tbsp. heavy cream
Juice of 1 lime
1 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
Instructions
Fry the tortillas in a little bit of oil until both sides are crispy. Drain on a paper towel-lined baking sheet. Alternatively, you can place the tortillas on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray and bake until crispy.

In a small bowl, whisk the ingredients for the crema until smooth.

In a skillet, brown the ground beef with onion and garlic.

Add salsa, water and taco seasoning. Cook until the liquid is absorbed.

Spread the meat mixture over the crispy tortilla and top with shredded lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole, black olives, green onion or whatever else floats your boat.
