The American hot dog is dressed up with an Asian twist that is out of this world delicious! Sometimes, one has to break out of the box one puts oneself in and try something new! The Asian slaw on its own is crazy good, but when you top a dog with it and add some spicy hot mustard and some other goodness….I can’t even, y’all! Dazzle your friends and family at your next cookout with these hot dogs. Here is a disclaimer though, you better make extra hot dogs because your guests will clamber for more.
Ingredients
For the Mustard Sauce
1/2 cup yellow mustard
1/2 Tbsp. soy sauce
1-1/2 Tbsp. Sriracha sauce
1/2 Tbsp. rice vinegar
Pinch of cayenne pepper
For the Spicy Ketchup Sauce (double the recipe if you require more ketchup sauce)
1/2 cup sugar-free ketchup
1-1/2 Tbsp. Sriracha Sauce
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1/2 tsp. ginger paste
For the Slaw Dressing
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1 Tbsp. Sriracha sauce
3 Tbsp. Swerve brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper
1 Tbsp. ginger paste
2 Tbsp. Hoisin sauce
For the Slaw Mix
1 bag coleslaw mix
2 Tbsp. sesame seeds
3 jalapenos, diced (remove the seeds for less spice)
1/2 red onion, very thinly sliced
1/2 onion, diced small
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. Swerve granular
Juice of 1 lime
4 green onions, sliced
For the Hot Dogs
1 package of beef hot dogs
8 Keto hot dog buns, such as Sola Brand
Chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions
In a small bowl, mix together the mustard sauce ingredients. Set aside.
In another small bowl, mix together the spicy ketchup sauce ingredients. Set aside.
In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the slaw dressing ingredients. Set aside.
Next, toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan. Watch these very carefully as they will burn quickly. Shake the pan as the sesame seeds toast to distribute the heat evenly. Remove the sesame seeds to a small bowl when they are done and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the slaw ingredients, making sure to add the toasted sesame seeds.
Pour the slaw dressing over the slaw mix and toss to coat thoroughly.
Grill the hot dogs and toast the buns.
To serve, place a hot dog on the bun and drizzle with the mustard and ketchup. Top the hot dog with the slaw and serve. These Asian Slaw Dogs are the best!!
